a day of tender mercies

I testify that the tender mercies of the Lord are available to all of us
and that the Redeemer of Israel is eager to bestow such
gifts upon us...Each of us can have eyes to see clearly and ears to
hear distinctly the tender mercies of the Lord as they
strengthen and assist us in these latter days. May our hearts
always be filled with gratitude for His abundant and tender mercies.

homework: today was our first reading day. as usual, i had no intentions of doing any studying at all! :) instead, my plan was to go mission shopping with cam. she was off, josue was in school, and i didnt have class. it was perfect! BUT, before we could go, i had to finish one last homework assignment. it was for my 450 class, and it was actually due yesterday, but i didnt have time to finish it. so i decided to do it anyway and see if i could turn it in. when i got to campus i asked tao (my TA) if he'd picked up the homework yet and he hadnt! so he said i could turn it in. and it wasnt even gonna be counted late. :) tender mercy #1.

golds gym: i had to freeze my membership today. but i always dread talking to the corporate office...they're not very nice. this time i had no choice cuz it had to get done. fortunately, i got to talk to a very nice man who took care of everything for me without any hassles AND even waived the $25 freeze fee. :) tender mercy #2.

passport: after several weeks of attempting to get a passport, i finally had the time/car/means to do so. i went to the post office in orem, the one next to golds, so that was super convenient. the lady who helped me was nice. but i had issues with the pictures i submitted. they werent good enough cuz 1, they had to have a white background (mine wasnt) and 2, they had to be on photopaper (mine wasnt). that meant i had to have it taken there, with their camera, and pay a whomping fee of $15!!! yuck. as i was leaving the post office i checked the receipt and she actually forgot to charge me the extra $15. :) tender mercy #3.

plans: meags didnt have to pick up ry from work. so we didnt have to end shopping early. and we could stay out for as long as cam had energy. :) tender mercy #4.

prayer: our next stop was university mall. before we got out of the car i asked cam if she could pray for us. why, you ask? cuz i really STONGLY dislike shopping...and seeing as i was out to get a whole new wardrobe, and i had a lot of stuff to get, and most of the time its hard to find stuff that fits my body well, and i was working with a budget, i knew it wasnt gonna be easy. so i needed all the help i could get! by the end of the day, id say it was a success. so our prayers were answered. :) tender mercy #5.

skirts: its hard to find skirts that are 1, long enough, and 2, reasonably priced. by reasonably i mean somewhere around $20. but i was finding some nice ones that were double that...and i couldnt bring myself to buy them. finally, as we were walking through provo towne centre i had a thought to go into a store called urban trends. just listen to that name: urban trends. does that sound like me? lol. not at all. but i went anyways. and im SOOO glad i did. in the very back corner of the store i found a pot of GOLD: a skirt rack, solid colors, the perfect length, for only $20 each. uh-maz-ing!!! i found 3 there. :) tender mercy #6.

shoes: famous footwear had a buy one get one 1/2 off sale. i found 2 pairs, one at one branch and the other at another. they're not very "me" and i think they're kinda funny looking but the good thing is that they're comfortable. and i found some. :) tender mercy #7.

blouses: so far i only have 3. but i only found 1 of them. guess who found the other 2? josue. lol. tender mercy #8.

walmart: i had to pick up some groceries. but since we were already there i could pick up all my mission toiletries too! they were pretty expensive. :S but that's one more thing off the packing list. :) tender mercy #9.

half-way: by the end of the day i was so exhausted. shopping is so EXHAUSTING. i dunno how girls (and i guess even guys) do it. its so not my thing. lol. but im about half way done...or maybe more than half way...cuz i got a lot of little things, and now i just have to get the big things. i need slips, 3-4 skirts, and 4-5 blouses and a few other miscellaneous things. thats all. tender mercy #10.

by the end of the day i was so ready to go home. :)

If I were to ask you which of all the passages in the Book of Mormon is the most widely read, I venture it would be the account found in 1 Nephi concerning Nephi, his brothers, his father, and the command to obtain from Laban the plates of brass. Perhaps this is because most of us, from time to time, pledge to again read the Book of Mormon. Usually we begin with 1 Nephi. In reality, the passages found therein portray beautifully the need to pray and then to go and do. Said Nephi, “I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.”

We remember the commandment. We remember the response. We remember the outcome.

In our day and our time, there are many examples concerning the experiences of those who pray and then go and do.
