i went to pow wow on campus...my first pow wow ever!
it was awesome to be there--to see a gathering of people who value and love and teach and practice their culture. absolutely beautiful. i just sat and watched and soaked it all in. :)
i remember some natives coming to kekaha school when i was in 2nd or 3rd grade and i was so fascinated. i loved their costumes, and the colors, and the feathers... i was so intrigued by their chants and their drumming and their dancing. and i still am. :)
i was glad i got to go. and eva reminded me that there are plenty of natives in minnesota...so i can tell them ive been to a pow wow before AND my roommate was native AND she sang go my son. :p here's the proof for them:
eva's gonna be famous. :D

Do you remember going to the Pow Wow in Montana? We always tell this story...A Pow Wow came to Helena, Montana. We were standing in the checkout line in County Market. Mom and Erwin Ad approached the checkout and saw three men with long hair, and one of them braided. Erwin Ad recognized them as a familiar sight. He tugged on Mom's clothes to get her to bend down. He would have been 6 or 7 years old at the time. He said, "Mom, are those REAL indians?". "Yes they are", was her reply. "ARE THEY GOING TO KILL US?", he said with an anxious tone. "No, of course not. You shold say hi to them", as she tried to comfort him. "I'm scared. What would I tell them? How?", was his response. "No, you can say hi, not how, but better yet, why don't you say ALOHA", was her counsel. He was shame to say anything, and they paid for their groceries. Can you post the "Go My Son" song or have it on audio or video? Which tribes are from Minnesota?
Minnesota meaning is: water that reflects the sky. Sky Blue Water. Minnesota gets its name from the Dakota word minisota, meaning "water that reflects the sky." Centuries ago, that is what the Dakota named the river now called the Minnesota River.
Sioux tribe
The Ojibwe tribe (also known as
Chippewa, Ojibway, or Ojibwa)
There are eleven federally recognized Indian tribes in Minnesota today.
