i went through phases...at one time it was mystery novels, another time it was the romance novels, and then there was the suspenseful stuff. i read series like sweet valley high, the boxcar children, the babysitters club, love stories, clearwater crossing and authors like lurlene mcdaniel, lois duncan, and francine pascal.
i remember reading into the wee hours of the morning...sometimes 2 or 3 o'clock...and maybe even 4! but those were only the good books. the ones that i just couldnt put down and i had to keep reading.
every once in a while mom or dad would wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and they'd see my light on. if it was a school night they would tell me to go to bed. and that was always a bummer.
one time i asked for a night light for christmas...cuz it was always such a hassle to get out of bed and turn off the light when i finally decided to go to bed. it was so much easier to stay in bed and fall asleep after a quick switch/click.
this was back in the day when it didnt take 5 billion hours to do my homework. and when i had a lot more time on my hands. so i actually enjoyed reading. nowadays all the textbook reading i have to do makes me too exhausted to wanna read for leisure. now it's more like a chore...it takes up so much time that once one assignment's done its time to move on to the next one. so i stopped reading.
BUT, this break i wanted to read a book. with all the time on my hands i figured itd be a good use of my time. and i always feel guilty for not reading as much as i think im supposed to be reading. i feel like i should read more cuz the prophets are always so well-read. so i went to the provo library and borrowed some books. :)
well...this morning, at 3 o'clock in the morning, i found myself lying in bed, with the night light on, reading one of my library books. i had to laugh to myself cuz i could barely believe what i was doing. it was just like old times! i couldnt put the book down so i just kept reading and reading. i found myself saying, "k, one more chapter and then i'll go to bed." but it just kept getting better. :p
there was no school tomorrow to make me feel guilty for not getting enough rest. there was no mom and dad telling me to turn off my light and go to bed. there was no needing to get off the top bunk to turn off the lamp.
i was in heaven. :)

I really liked this post! It was really fun, and personal and well written! Thanks for sharing a fun story and interesting info from your past. :)
Enjoy the rest of your break.
thanks ry! :)
LOL... I REMEMBER THIS!!! and i used to do that too! =) this brings back old memories of the old house in the back room when me and ally used to share a room with you! =P good times, good times...
The reading text books triggered a college memory for me. I never leisure read (too much work). My complaint about college life was the intervals between each reading and doing. There wasn't enough time to "stop-and-smell-the-roses" enjoyment, because it was immediately on to the next reading assignment or preparation to take a test or turn something in. (Dad)
rach: lol. yup, same same! do you remember what other kinds of prizes we got from the summer reading program? remember how it was all lined up on the top shelf behind susan's desk? :p
dad: thats exactly how it is during the school year! so i took advantage of the break and finally read something for leisure. :)
lol. lol. lol. I REMEMBER THIS!!!! you. are. a. dork.!!! lol. p.s. lurlene mcdaniel!!! lol. you should start reading the series that i'm reading; it's good. kind of corny, but clean, god-inclusive, and romantic! =P oh, and when i'm i gonna read sere...whatever its called?
its my sergei. and you're not gonna like it. so you will never ever know what my fantasy man is like. :(
i dunno if i can handle corny...i need real, deep, sweet. not corny. :S
p.s.i changed it. just for you!
i remember reading. ive read every single comic in the entire waimea public library...twice! i used to like reading but then it sucked for me too. i dont like it anymore. except recently. i finally finished harry potter 7. i thought it was a good series. prrolly wont read it again tho but i did like it. and hunger games and catching fire(theyre sequels. those turned out to be really good books that i stayed up til 730 reading partly cuz it was good and partly cuz i couldnt sleep on christmas. i was soo devastated to find out tht the 3rd book isnt even out yet:( i hate waiting for the story to end and i hate not knowing already. books are fun but college is definately killing it for me. i wish someone would buy me stickers colorful pencils and free mcdonalds food. i would have one of each by now:D
EVERY comic book in the ENTIRE library....TWICE!? what a nerd! :p
that's right! i forgot about the stickers! :)

2) the library always has mixed feelings for me--i worked there
3) i think it's a privilege to read. such a sweet feeling to see a character develop and become a story.
4) i want my children to love reading
5) my favorite books will always be children's picture books :)
2) THATS RIGHT! i totally forgot about that...lol
